How to use the EZ-8 Drum Sander?

Before using the sander, make sure that you read the safety instructions and understand how to use it safely.

  1. Adjust the leveling controls to make sure that the sander is level. You can do this by sight, or you can use a level to check it. If the sander isn’t leveled, it will vibrate and cause poor results.
  2. Adjust the operating controls to the desired speed. The higher the speed, the faster the sanding belt will move.
  3. Place the workpiece against the sanding belt and use your hands to hold it in place.

Important Information Ahead!

Apply moderate pressure and move the workpiece back and forth with a slight circular motion. Be sure to keep your fingers clear of the sanding belt.

Don’t apply too much pressure, or you’ll damage the workpiece. Keep the speed slow to avoid burning the wood.

Clean off any debris or sawdust that builds upon the workpiece. This ensures better results and prolongs the life of your sanding belt. Also, clean off the dust port frequently.

If you’ve never used a drum sander before, you might want to start with some scrap wood. Once you get used to sanding with this machine, you can begin sanding your wood projects.

How do you level my EZ-8 Sander?

You can level the EZ-8 Drum Sander by sight or with a level.

If you’re using a level:

  1. Loosen the four leveling screws on the base of the unit.
  2. Place the level on the top of the unit, and adjust the screws until the unit is level.
  3. Tighten the four screws.

If you’re using a level, make sure that the unit is placed on a flat surface before inspecting it for level.

How do you tighten a drum sander?

To tighten a drum sander, you’ll need an Allen wrench.

  • Loosen the tension knob.
  • Locate and remove the screw in the cap at the center of the drum sander.
  • Replace it with the screw provided in your kit and use an Allen wrench to tighten it. Ensure that it’s tight enough not to slip the sanding belt but not too tight to damage the unit.
  • Replace the cap and tighten the tension knob.

What types of sandpaper can I use with this drum sander?

You can find several different paper options for your drum sander. The most common type is standard 40-grit sandpaper, suitable for sanding wood and removing paint or varnish.

There are also some different grits available to choose the best for your project. 80-grit sandpaper is suitable for rough sanding, while 120-grit is better for finish sanding. You can also find specialty sandpaper, such as wood grain sandpaper or polishing sandpaper.
